Designer Specs
You may not be aware but the vast majority of Spectacles labled designer eyewear are made under licence by only a hand full of spectacle manufacturer importers.
The licensing agreements change hands fairly frequently, in effect a Spectacles wearer can buy a designer frame today and tomorrow the designer licence can change hands and that particular frame will be discontinued overnight with new models being manufactured elsewhere.
Did you know that * Giorgio Armani , Emporio Armani, Diesel, Yves Saint Laurent, Polo Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Dior, Valentino, Oliver, Carrera, Stella McCartney, Oxydo, Pierre Cardin and Alexander McQueen design licenses are all held by a single frame manufacturer.
And a second company manufactures / imports all these designs * Anne Klein, Arnette, Brookes Brothers, Byblos, Bvlgari, Burberry, Chanel, D&G, Dolce&Gabbana, Donna Karan, DKNY, Ferragamo, Genny, Killer Loop, Miu Miu, Moschino, Persol, Prada, Ray-Ban, Revo, Tacchini, Sferoflex, Versace, Versus and Vogue.
Basically the Designer name is leased to the highest bidder.
* All information correct at time of writing.
The agents who sell designer frames on the whole seem to have a policy of maintaining exclusivity amongst their customers.
For Example
Maybe there are two opticians operating within one small town or the same high street, only one of the opticians will be allowed to purchase a particular designer collection, thus allowing no competition and allowing their chosen optician to charge a premium price whilst the other optician may be offered a collection from another designer within their portfolio.
Whenever these arrangements are threatened by discounters such as ourselves the licence holders try to establish where our stocks are being purchased in order to stem supplies.
However we will endeavor to keep supplying Spectacles with designer lables at reasonable prices.
