Long-sightedness [ Presbyopia ] ( is derived from the Greek word "presbys" (πρέσβυς), meaning "old person"). As we get older, many of us notice that in situations where a quick glance at print was all we once needed to read, suddenly becomes a struggle. We find we need more light to read, and fatigue and headaches soon follow. Often a little magnification is all that is needed.
Because we know how important near vision is to you we offer a good selection of reading glasses in our online store. If you should have any questions just remember we are simply a call or email away and are happy to assist you.
We provide a great range of optical quality ready-made reading glasses in lens powers from +1.0 dioptre up to +4.0 dioptre, and will make readers from +0.50 dioptre to +4.00 dioptre in +0.25 increments, in any of our glaze-able readers. Our reading eyeglasses are very competitively priced, many with spring tensioned sides for added comfort, all have been selected to cater for the most discerning of customers. Sun-reading glasses function as both reading glasses and sunglasses in one. They are a means of aiding near vision as we approach middle age. We are not fully aware of the exact reasons for Presbyopia as yet, but, research most strongly supports a loss of elasticity of the crystalline lens, although loss of power of the ciliary muscles (the muscles that bend and straighten the lens) and changes in the lens's curvature from continual growth have also been postulated as its cause. Our sun-readers are designed for reading newspapers and books outdoors in conditions of bright sunlight. We also supply Sun Reacting reading glasses, our full rimmed reacting readers are fitted with 1.56 mid index photochromic lenses, whilst rimless and semi-rimless models are fitted with Transitions lenses. |
Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) often happens to computer users when they spend more than two hours on a computer per day. Symptoms include headaches, dry eyes, focusing difficulties, tired/burning eyes, blurred/double vision and neck strain. Our eyes respond best to solid black printed letters with clearly defined edges on a white background. CVS occurs when the eye looks at characters on a computer screen. Computer characters are different to those printed on paper in that each character is brightest at it’s centre with diminishing intensity toward its edge. This intensity drop makes our eyes drift from a sustained screen focus to a focus behind the screen, hence, there is continuous involuntarily movement of our focus to a point behind the screen causing muscular strain whilst trying to regain focus back on the screen.
